I know, you think I’m on a culinary kick here, but just bear with me. Have you ever really thought about Toast? I mean really thought about it? Not just to decide on white, wheat or rye? Or what spread – butter, Jelly, or the delightfully-delish, calorie packed Nuttella? But have really thought about Toast? […]
I know how it is. S@#*t goes BAD. Between that late bill that you, “just don’t have the money for” or that new wrinkle around your eyes that seems to be multiplying right before your eyes, or your sudden realization that you didn’t proofread your job application and not only did you use “it’s” when […]
Recently it was suggested that my frustration with my “failures” was a negative position to have. Upon reflection I remembered an encounter I had with a Producer/Manager at seminar for people looking to move ahead in the Entertainment History. We were asked to present a goal that we wished to accomplish. Impressed with the speakers […]
Economist Lionel Robbins defines Economics as, “… the use of scarce resources (or goods) which have alternative uses.” We refer to much of those goods as Commodities and the most recklessly used commodity isn’t oil, water or even Green M&Ms. It is a commodity we all have but only in a finite supply, never to […]
Storyboard to live action comparison. They moved the other woman but I got the First Lady’s pose right.
Ladies and gentlemen, the first page to my Graphic Novel, “Obsidian – Resurrection”
Actually it’s just the last page I have to draw of the first book, but hey, I liked the movie, even met Tiamak while we were both auditioning for young Conan, as in before he(Conan) was a buff monster berserker, and the song is in my head now so why not.
My Comic is almost finished – just 15 more pages to draw then I have to place word balloons etc.. The End is Nigh… wait, is that right?…
Currently I am now ten pages into my last chapter of “Obsidian” formerly known as “The Black Knight.” Here is the opening chapter image.
From time to time I take odd jobs and many in “The Arts” do. Today I was Alec Baldwin’s hand double. We shot MOS (without sound) and this is what a fly on the wall would have heard today, I kid you not — Director: Okay now stroke it… up and down… now touch the […]
Here’s a first. A comment from an art director… “The guy behind a hero seems to have a bit of a private part (penis) outline. Can we make that more subtle?” I don’t know… can he?
Economist Thomas Sowell defines “Economics” as “… the use of resources (or goods) which have alternative values.” We refer to much of those goods as Commodities. The most recklessly used commodity isn’t oil, water or even food coloring. It is something we all have and regardless what science fiction conjures up, we can never renew […]
Once again I have not posted for a while. The thing is, I have a short that is being produced starring Kipp Shiotani, Jennifer Aquino Shiotani and Peter Shinkoda and yes, if you watch “Daredevil” yeah… that’s the dude! Watching the monitor in the photo above, Art Chudabala directing the action.
When I first came up with my hero he bore a resemblance to Abe Lincoln, however after the story was developed it became clear, that a man fighting dragons should be considered a knight. Since this hero was black, well, his name would be obvious. I knew Marvel already had a black knight, but so did […]
Since I’m not finished with the comic yet but some of it is, I thought I would post an “almost finished” pic. I’m thinking my background line work needs to be thinned out quite a bit to make the dinos and dragons stand out.
Once again, I have a lot on my plate with no time to blog. Image above are from the storyboards for “The Pawn.”
Last night at my freelance gig myself and another artist were waiting to be released. “Can you hold on a minute for a couple of minor tweaks?” Of course we said yes and thus entered the first phase of overtime, where one thinks, “I’m almost out of here — please God, no revisions.” Now once […]
One of the great things about freelancing is that you have time to date. Unfortunately one of the worse things about having free time is that it is due to lack of work. So, when the stars align just right both money and time create the perfect storm. In seven days I managed four dates with […]
Yesterday I was asked, “What’s it like to have talent?” My first thought was, “Everybody has talent, why would you ask that?” but upon further reflection I could not recall ever thinking, reading or hearing that question in art class or any where else. Another way to ask the question would be to say, “What […]
I know it’s a popular term that we sometimes, “get in our own way,” but when you think about it, this really is an oxymoron. Think about it, it’s like saying, “I can’t take a deep breath right now because I’m inhaling.” Speaking of breathing and the trials of life, my 3rd grade teacher had […]
I like to juggle projects. Not only does it prevent stagnation on any said project, but I just have to many tangental thoughts that would drive me crazy if I did not follow the creative impulse these thoughts germinate. Currently I am working on… A “Twilight Zone” type short for a producer friend of mine […]
So I am fortunate enough to be slammed with paying work since Nov 2015 and thus have limited time to work on my comic. With that said, here is a page currently in progress.
Nothing is more satisfying of me than to do a four panel page with only one background. Why? Because I can finish it in no time. Maybe not as fun to look at but hey, “It’s not all about you,” now is it? I do however as sometimes, “Who is it all about?”
Not that anyone has been reading these, but I was on vacation for the holidays. Now back to the grindstone. Here is another page inked.
Buddy: Hey, you want to see that new Bond movie tonight? Pal: I’d like to. Buddy: But you don’t want to. Pal: Yes I do. I just– Buddy: –You live minutes from the theater and have cash in the bank, so… you have the means and the fortune to do so. If you want to […]
This Thanksgiving I am very thankful to go into December with cash in the bank for prezzys and a handful of work. Today I will be creating my Christmas card, and thanks to time travel, here it is finished!
Minus the word balloons, here is one of my finished pages. Drawn in Manga Studio 5, I intend to pitch it during the coloring stage, primarily I would like a publisher to provide someone with greater skills than I. By the way, the missing lower face in the mid right panel will be covered by […]
I was just hired to whip out a real quick WWC inspired pic off of a thumbnail. It’s always a question, “Do I start from scratch and make a really good pic that they may not want, or just do what they ask.” I opted for the later here.
Here is a storyboad frame(s) from a secret project staring a very public person, er… android? Machine Man? Anyway, you all know him and love him. So much so I think he would make a great talk show host and give Space Ghost a run for his money. Not only that but he works a […]
I had this whole plan. I was going to show you the first completed inked page of The Black Knight: Resurrection. But noooooooo, life happened and I completely dropped the ball. Now it’s two weeks since my last post and I find myself stretched thin. So instead, here is another panel. Free signed sketch to […]
I’m just a little to busy with paid work and family issues to rabble on here, however here is another unfinished piece from “The Black Knight.”
It’s a winner! Yes the small group I sent my very rough cut of The Black Knight all agreed on some basics. The story flowed from one panel to the next, interesting shot choices and cool ideas. Most importantly the professional writer whose opinion I valued most stated, “… holy shit, this is good.” “This […]
As of now, I have four chapters. Each has a BW introduction image. This is the first one. Yes, my story Begins with Death. Several of them actually.
As stated in my last blog I am awaiting feedback from a select few friends. So far I’ve received one short paragraph. That paragraph was important though. You see I knew deep down inside one image didn’t work. Yes it it does have some merit and I do believe it can be saved but I […]
No, not on tables, and not on another surgery. I emerged from the operation room Stone Free and on my way to full recovery thank you. Feeling so good that I managed to almost finish my graphic novel cover you see before you. I need to tweak it a bit, but basically it’s finished unless […]
